Three years ago, Andy took a leap of faith and started Handy Andy Landscaping. What began as a one-year trial quickly became something much bigger when his wife got pregnant just two months in. That moment changed everything—this wasn't just a business anymore, it was his family's future. He knew he had to make it succeed.
Today, with 8 years of hands-on experience in the industry (including 2 years in building, 1 year in concreting, and 2 years specifically in landscaping), Andy has built a reputation across Whanganui for quality work that doesn't cut corners. For the first three years, he worked completely solo, hand-picking his trusted digger driver Johnny when big excavation work was needed. Now, as demand has grown, he's expanding his team while maintaining the same high standards his customers expect.
Andy's approach is simple: customer service matters, quality is non-negotiable, and timeframes are flexible because he'd rather take a bit longer at his own expense than rush a job. Community support matters. Andy has seen many of his friends and family go through hard times, and he's witnessed firsthand how much of a difference organizations and charities can make for families in desperate need.
This winter, Handy Andy Landscaping ran its first DSG fundraiser—and it went incredibly well. What started as a hope for 20 hoodies sold turned into nearly 70, raising approximately $1,700 that went straight to Ronald McDonald House, primarily supporting kids with cancer and their families during their toughest moments.
